First Australian organ trafficking case
Police are investigating the first case of organ trafficking in Australia.
Police
are investigating the first case of organ trafficking in
Australia. An elderly Sydney woman with a kidney condition may have trafficked
a younger woman from the Philippines. The deal was allegedly made without the
donor’s full consent and was discovered during screening interviews at a Sydney
hospital in March. The Minister for Justice, Brendan O’Connor, said ”Irrespective
of the type of exploitation, human trafficking follows the same premise: that
people are trafficked to supply a demand – be it sex, labour or human body
parts,” he said. Investigations are continuing. ~ Sydney Morning
