  • Chlamydia: British fertility expert Lord Robert Winston has questioned whether the sexually transmitted disease chlamydia is responsible for an increasing number of infertile couples. He claims that the link between chlamydia and infertility is based on two Swedish papers written 40 years ago and that women were being made to feel unnecessarily guilty. However, family planning organisations disagreed, saying that it was well known that untreated chlamydia could cause pelvic inflammatory disease which scar the fallopian tubes and prevent conception.
