residents. Over the past 10 to 20 years, Ragunda has been shrinking. Migration to Sweden’s cities has
led smaller municipalities to explore a wide variety of incentives to attract
new residents.
The
nearby communities of Berg, Strömsund and Härjedalen introduced schemes similar
to the ones being considered for Ragunda, which offer financial support for
fertility treatments for all inhabitants. “We don’t know yet what we will be
allowed to do, or even what we can afford to do. But it is important to explore
all avenues and look at all creative ideas in order to increase our population
figures,” said Terese Bengard, a local politician in Ragunda. ~ The Local, Jun 16
