In
a hall in West London this week, a group of over-50s listened to a talk by
“Doctor Death” that detailed the specifics of how they could take their own
lives. Dr Philip Nitschke has had his book on
voluntary euthanasia banned in his home country Australia and his trip to
Britain has predictably caused a commotion. Despite that, a small group of
elderly turned up to hear Dr Nitschke show how to procure the drugs he said
would give them a painless death. If some people didn’t want to take drugs,
they could use an “exit bag” kit instead. Despite the storm surrounding
Nitschke’s workshops, he said he was giving people informed choices. “We’re
used to managing our health, our finances. It’s logical we should manage our
deaths as well. Knowledge is power.” ~ Daily Mirror, Jun 14
