Doctors and nurses campaign for right to assist terminally ill in dying
Challenging medical bodies’ opposition to law changes
Leading British doctors who support
assisting the terminally ill to die launched an unprecedented campaign for
change in legislation on the right to die last week. Healthcare Professionals
for Change, made up of doctors, nurses and allied health professionals, said
its aim was to challenge bodies like the British Medical Association, which
oppose changes in the law. The group is the first professional body to be set
up with the specific aim of changing the 1961 Suicide Act, which forbids
