Free vial of sperm in Instagram giveaway
The gimmick provoked some controversy: “Imagine telling a child that they came from an Instagram giveaway.”
The latest chapter in the Reproductive Revolution comes from Nova Scotia. A Canadian lesbian influencer couple called Allie and Sam are offering a free vial of sperm donated an American sperm bank to one of their lucky 203,000 followers on Instagram.
“We are so, so excited to be partnering with Fairfax Cryobank to (hopefully!) help one of you grow your family,’ the “lgbt travel couple” wrote on Instagram. ‘Winner will receive credit for 1 vial of donor sperm (of your choice) from Fairfax Cryobank and free shipping, and will be announced and contacted via DM on August 20th. Contest open to residents of Canada + the US. Not affiliated with or endorsed by Instagram.”
To enter the draw, entrants need to follow allieandsam, like the post and tag their friends.
The prize in the competition is worth about US$500. Allie and Sam have endorsed other products in the past, like watch straps, pet food and a household sweeper, but this is the first time that they have used their plataform to merchanise sperm.
The gimmick provoked some controversy. One person commented: “Imagine telling a child that they came from an Instagram giveaway.”
