Singapore debates euthanasia
Health minister sparks controversy
Will Singapore become the first Asian country to legalise euthanasia? After a speech by health minister Khaw Boon Wan a month ago in which he mentioned the possibility, religious leaders there are worried. The National Council of Churches of Singapore felt concerned enough to issue a statement condemning euthanasia as opening "the door to serious abuses that would threaten the rights and dignity of persons and society". And the Catholic Archbishop, Nicholas Chia, denounced it in a special letter. ~ Straits Times, Nov 3; Straits Times, Nov 6
