Pennsylvania tightens abortion laws after exposure of horror clinic
Strict new abortion clinic laws are now in effect in Pensylvania, following the 2010 exposure of Dr. Kermit Gosnell’s infamous Women’s Medical Society abortion clinic.
Strict new abortion clinic laws are now in effect in Pensylvania, following the 2010 exposure of Dr. Kermit Gosnell’s infamous Women’s Medical Society abortion clinic. The new laws require that abortion clinics meet the same standards as outpatient surgery centres. Clinics need to enlarge operating rooms and install hospital grade-elevators, hands-free sinks and washable ceilings and floors. The clinics are also subject to unannounced inspections by health officials.
“There were admitted failures in oversight at the department,” conceded Aimee Tysarczyk, the state Department of Health.
Five abortion clinics have closed down since the passage of the laws and many others are struggling to pay for the required changes. Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania claimed it cost US$450,000 for the upgrades to their two facilities.
